Diamond discs consist of 2 main elements: a steel base and segments filled with diamonds. The steel base is made of very high quality machined hardened steel. The gaps between the segments cool the segments with water or air during operation. The segments consist of a mixture of diamonds and metallic powder. During the production of the disc, the diamond-powder mixture is heated to very high temperatures, which turns it into a monolithic alloy containing diamonds.
